WHO WE ARE

JOOSBOX

A Denver video production company.

We are always at the threshold of technology and innovation. We set ourselves apart by implementing state of the art knowledge combined with our artistic style. We know that 3D and motion graphics are in high demand and we work with the best designers. From script to screen we keep you up to date and informed. As a production company we do more than simply produce digital content. Our team, from a wide variety of backgrounds, will ensure that your project creates maximum impact.

Narratives to Commercials. Documentaries to Music Videos. Live Events to Corporate Videos. We use Digital Cinema Cameras including the RED Epic Dragon and Blackmagic Cinema Cameras to obtain the highest definition quality and RAW dynamic range to set your project apart for the rest.

Our editing team brings visions to life and our cinematic color grading is backed by the power of Davinci Resolve.

Film is incredibly democratic and accessible, it’s probably the best option if you actually want to change the world, not just re-decorate it.

RED EPIC DRAGON

Joosbox has gone RED! The RED EPIC DRAGON has landed in Denver, Colorado. With the 6K RED DRAGON sensor, you can capture over 9x more pixels than HD. Unrivaled detail and impressive native exposure eclipse 35mm film in both latitude and image density. Industry leading specs distinguish the EPIC DRAGON as a model for image innovation, helming the evolution of digital cinema technology.

Your image is only as good as the color science behind it. The new RED DRAGON sensor features the most advanced color science yet, taking advantage of vastly improved dynamic range and low-light capabilities. Skin tones are softer, primary colors are more vibrant, and subtle color variations are discernibly remarkable. EPIC DRAGON cameras capture images that are true to life, with colors that can only be described as “brilliant”.

Resolution is more than just attention to detail. From large objects to granule textures, 6K images cultivate the nuance of every image, leaving nothing behind. Improvements to micro-contrast and MTF produce a cleaner image, drastically reducing moiré and aliasing artifacts. When outputting 6K files to 4K or HD, your image will appear more refined and detailed compared to those captured at lower resolutions. The choice is simple; Bigger is better.

The RED EPIC DRAGON clocks 300 frames per second. With blazing fast hi-speed capabilities, we can capture the fastest moments in ultra slow motion.

It all began with an appreciation of film and how through motion pictures as a child I could be transported to different worlds, connect with characters and be introduced to emotions. From there I began experimenting with different aspects of video/film production. Starting out as a PA on reality television I quickly gained experience working in art, lighting, grip, camera and eventually getting the opportunities to direct. Working on all forms of media from commercial, documentary, reality, music videos, events and feature films. Video & film have given me the unique opportunities to be creative and has broaden my outlook on life.

Hi, I’m Shawn Astrom, the second oldest in a family of four. I grew up in Boulder Colorado. Seventy five percent of my time as a kid was spent playing video games and the piano, I wasn’t much interested in a lot more than that.

I was always messing around with computers and had a great love for art and music. At a pretty young age I started learning a program called Photoshop. Needless to say once I saw a little of what I could do with art on the computer the rest was history.

On top of that I discovered a program called Ableton Live and that led me to spend the next several years producing electronic music. With a bit of luck I had some minimal success with my music, even got to perform in Ibiza and Japan a few times.

Fast forward a bit and you’ll know that I had the pleasure of working at The Firm Graphics for several years as a lead graphic designer. I worked on several amazing projects for all kinds of clients in the electronic music scene.

I left The Firm Graphics in 2008 to go work for Citizen Pictures as their lead 3D artist. I had the opportunity to work for clients such as Food Network, Discovery Channel, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, and Activision Games to name a few. Citizen Pictures is currently producing some of Food Network’s top Shows.

In 2011 I started SA Studios, INC. I am currently working as a fulltime freelance 3D Motion Designer and VFX Specialist with a little bit of music production in the mix on occasion. We use a diverse set of tools ranging from Cinema 4D to Realflow to create pretty much anything you can imagine. We specializes in all things CG related from volumetrics to identity design. Thanks for taking the time to check us out.

It started when I was 8, my uncle gave me a 35mm camera. At age 12, my parents bought a video camera which I never put down. As a result, I’m not in many of our home videos. I would plug and unplug some VCRs with our camera to cut video and add then music. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was editing. In high school, I did black and white photography. I wanted to add movement to the frame and started attending the CEC (Career Education Center). This lead to an internship at NBC 9 News while I was in high school. When I graduated, it turned into my first job. At the age of 19, I was the youngest editor at NBC 9. Getting up at 3am and cutting the news was fun, but I was more into feature films and commercials. Luckily, I was soon recruited by Update Productions. Long story short, one thing lead to another, 18 years later, I’ve captured video of the Dalai Lama, Michael Jordan, and Barack Obama. I’ve also worked on projects like the Oscar winning documentary “The Cove.”
